A few months back I was dating someone who expected a lot out of me.
He expected me to open up to him completely in that short time of knowing him.
He gets upset and starts giving me this sad, disappointed, thoughtful look when I decide not to tell him some things that he wanted to know.
I know, I should be lucky someone cares about me.
But he was seriously pressuring me, asking me why can’t I just tell him (whatever it is that he asked) because maybe he could help.
I had to explain to him over and over that yes, I am open but there are some things about me that I won’t allow just anyone to see.
It takes time. It took Diana about a year or so.
Stuff like… my family problems and how I really feel about the situation.
I can’t show my true feelings to just anyone.
For example, if someone’s hurt my feelings real bad, they probably won’t know it.
Because I guess I don’t wanna look vulnerable. So I act like I don’t care.
I try to look like this strong ass person. Like a warrior. Or whatever.
I told the guy over and over, hey we’ve only just met less than a month ago. Give it some time will you?

Despite all that, I tried to make it work.
I tried to forget that part of him and just let him accept the fact in time to come.

All’s well that ends well.
It’s over now and everything turned out for the better.
Do you know what it feels like to base an entire relationship just on conversations about how much we’re into each other?
We talked about nothing else.
After two months, the topic got boring and we ran out of things to talk about.
So we talked about other stuff and that was when I realized we had nothing in common.

And this is where the song comes in.

Lust will only get us so far now.

I remember being very interested in this band’s album cover art, and the art on their website before I knew what they sounded like. I had imagined, based on the way they look, and the artwork, how they might sound. Haha I was wrong But they sound great nonetheless.
